Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves' character select screen from the demo revealed
Harkening back to the original titles
For the past 25 years, the Fatal Fury series remained essentially dormant in the vaults at SNK, but now the wild wolf is finally setting up for a big return.
Evo Japan 2024 marks the first time Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is playable to the public in the form of a limited demo, which also unveiled what the character select screen is currently looking like, and it's a bit different than what you'd typically expect.
Instead of the usual squares / rectangles containing character portraits, City of the Wolves' select screen has the five available fighters of Terry Bogard, Rock Howard, Hotaru Futaba, Tizoc and newcomer Preecha standing in a row next to each other with their full-body portraits.
After picking controller sides and a stage, it looks like players just need to move left or right to cycle through characters where larger and more detailed portraits and their names will appear after highlighting them for a second.
Upon picking a fighter, players can then decide on a color and which third of their life bar to have the S.P.G. system active for a handful of extra benefits.
This may look a bit unorthodox compared to most modern fighters, but CotW appears to be referencing the first three Fatal Fury games.
Admittedly, City's character select screen feels like it's lacking a bit of something next to how Fatal Fury 3 has its fighters dynamically posed.
How the screen appears now, however, is not how it's going to be in the final release since this is just a demo with five characters and still potentially around a year away from launching.

It's not the only new select screen we've gotten to see for the first time either with Hunter X Hunter: Nen Impact debuting theirs as well as some gameplay for Evo Japan too.
