Diablo 4 has introduced many MMO elements into its sandbox-style open world. One such element is the class-specific quest players undertake every five levels. Each class gains power by completing these quests in the form of key abilities. For the Necromancer this often comes in the form of additional minions.

How To Unlock The Golem Minion

The bone, blood, and iron golems from Diablo 4

In order to unlock the Golem minion, players will need to complete the class quest Necromancer: Call of the Underworld. You should find this quest on the Priority Quests tab. If you have not completed the level 20 Necromancer quest, however, Call of the Underworld may not show up as available for you.

Necromancer: Call Of The Underworld

The two shrines players will interact with during the Necromancer Quest Call of the Underworld in Diablo 4

At level 25, Necromancers have the option to complete a unique quest called Call of the Underworld. This quest will unlock the ability to summon the golem and should be completed as soon as it is available.

Location

This quest is located at the Shrine of Rathma. To reach the shrine, head Northwest from the Menestad Waypoint. Once there, you will talk to an NPC named Maltorius.

If you want a handy marker on your mini-map to guide you, you can track this quest by:

  1. Opening the Journal
  2. Selecting the Priority Quests tab (it should be the second one).
  3. Clicking on the track button next to the quest's name.

After tracking the quest, a blue diamond should show up at the next location for the quest. The current objective will be displayed on the left-hand side of the screen.

Despite the name, Priority Quests can be sneaky and do not override whatever quest you currently have tracked. To ensure you don't miss any important quests, checking this tab often is helpful.

Walkthrough

There are several steps to complete this quest:

  1. Interact with the Shrine of Rathma.
  2. Speak with Maltorius.
  3. Collect 12 Unbroken Bones by killing nearby enemies.
  4. After collecting these items, speak with Maltorius again. He will tell you to collect a Vile Artifact.
  5. Enter the indicated cave to the Southeast.
  6. Interact with the shrine inside, and defeat the resulting enemies.

How To Summon The Golem Minion

Diablo 4 Golem skill and book of the dead

Once you've completed the quest to unlock your golem, you'll need to equip a skill to summon it. To equip and summon the golem minion:

  1. Open the character panel and then select the skills tab. Alternatively, open the Skills page directly.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the list, where you should see Summon Golem.
  3. Drag this skill onto your hot bar.
  4. Use the skill to summon a golem.

Ensure you have a perk selected in your Book of the Dead - Golems section, or the Golem will not spawn.

If your golem ever dies, it will respawn after 20 seconds, as long as the golem skill remains on your Hotbar.

How To Summon Different Golems

You will start with a bone golem, but can later unlock a blood or iron golem using Book of the Dead. These golems have different attacks and abilities. Use the Book of the Dead to summon different types of golems.

  • The bone golem
  • The blood golem
  • The iron golem

For the golem to spawn, you need to have a bonus selected next to the golem type (except in the case of the sacrifice bonus, in which case no golem will spawn) as well as the ability on your Hotbar. If your golem ever dies, they will respawn automatically 20 seconds later, as long as you keep the golem ability on your Hotbar.

Which Golem To Summon

The different golems are geared toward different utilities, with their player-selected bonuses further differentiating them. Many players using a ranged build value the bone Golem's taunting ability, while other, tankier builds prefer the Iron Golem's CC. The Blood Golem can synergize well with a drain tank build, but is not the most common choice.
